We have some more information about how to perform this quest but recognize you might want to try it on your own before we tell you the secret...
There is no minimum damage you must get them to before capture but you do need to engage them in combat and get them close to you, then use the Spider Cage to capture it. It takes time to cast and only works at melee range, so you will have to just take some damage while using the cage.

Tusk Spiders are outsude Bloodfang Clan, while Deadwood Spiders are everywhere east of the bridge in Muttering Forest.
