Spoiler Alert! We have some more information about how to perform this quest but recognize you might want to try it on your own before we tell you the secret...
IF the Green Forest Deer turns out to be a male, you will not get any quest items from it. IF it is female, you will get at least one  Milk. Unfortunately, it is hard to accurately identify their gender from a safe distance. On the plus side, once you do find a female, you should be able to milk it at least three times, getting  Milk each time, before the deer wakes up and runs away.
