Champion / Rogue is a solid choice for a tank, and is even capable of dealing respectable damage outside of that role. By taking advantage of Rogue's dual-wielding capabilities, this combination can rapidly generate rage, which allows for greater skill access and, in turn, more damage. Furthermore, the elite skill Shadow Explosion supports Champion's naturally low physical attack by dramatically boosting it, which lets it sustain aggro while serving as a tank, or just deal a great amount of damage on its own.

Strength as usual is important for dealing damage, and Dexterity and Stamina are good supplemental stats. If the player's plan is to tank, Stamina would take a higher priority, but if high damage is the ultimate goal, then Dexterity would be a better secondary stat focus.
As stated previously, Rogue provides Champion with dual-wielding. Daggers aren't needed for this combination, fortunately. Vicious Attack improves Shadowstab while removing the bleeding effect, which lets Champion / Rogue make the most from hammers, especially after Runecraft - Haste is learned. This combo also sports some of the greatest skill synergy available to the class. Shadow Drive turns Chain Drive into a potent ability. Rune Pulse is a cornerstone ability, as is Shadow Pulse, the former of which is a great aggro generating ability while in Shield Form.
The other skills available are also quite strong and sometimes useful, such as Smoke Diffusion for stealth and Fearless Blow as an execution-style skill. During burn phases, Death Arrives allows Champion / Rogue to use as many skills as possible to hit as hard as it can, giving it an advantage as both a tank and a damage dealer.
