Runes vs. Stats[ | ]

First off, there is a difference between Stats (like Strength, Dexterity, Critical Hit, Healing Power Increase, etc) and Stats (like Dexterity XVI Dexterity XVI).

The database makes a distinction between Runes and Stats, although they are nearly identical in what they are and what they can do. Both can be used to add abilities to an equipment item. The main difference is in how they are obtained. Runes can be contructed out of lesser Runes, painstakingly increasing the power. Stats cannot be made from lesser Stats, but can only be extracted from an item that already has the desired Stat on it (or built by a Black Codex Rune Attribute Exchange Merchant). Runes do have an Icon and can range from tier I to X, while Stats can range all the way to tier XXII and do not have an Icon associated with them.

Now that we have alleviated that confusion, let's muddy the clear waters of understanding. Both have a Tier but it is like the tier of a weapon, not the same as the tier in the name. Runes will have a Rune Group, while Stats have a rarity (1 to 3). I suppose Runes have rarity as well, but as far as we can tell, all Runes are the same as rarity 1 (green stats).

So, Dexterity I could refer to the Runes Dexterity I Dexterity I to Dexterity X Dexterity X, or the Stats Dexterity I to Dexterity XXII. Thankfully, Dexterity is one of the very few names that can refer to either, or both. Of course, Dexterity can also refer to an Attribute on your character sheet.
