About Items: No wiki is ever going to document every single item in an MMORPG. For this reason, every single item link in this wiki that we do not have a page for will show a link to the RoM-Welten database (RWdb) so you can more easily find the information you are looking for.

Binding[ | ]

Most equipment items will Bind on Pickup or Bind on Equip. A very few are neither and may be given to other characters or traded. See Item Binding for more explanation.

Tiering[ | ]

"The base tier of items can be seen in game and changes every 20 levels (lvl 1-20 = tier 1, 21-40 = tier 2, 41-60 = tier 3, 61-80 = tier 4, 81-100 = tier 5). This means that items acquired in-game can only give you Mana Stone Tier 1 Mana Stone Tier 1 to Mana Stone Tier 6 Mana Stone Tier 6 (some level 100 items will be Tier 6 instead of 5). Many moons ago, it was noticed that putting rare/normal/good drops into the Arcane Transmutor sometimes gave higher tier stones than the base tier of the item. At that point, we just experimented with the items we had available to find what worked. Thus we found that normal drops gain +3 to their base level and good items gained +7. Rare was a bit trickier and for a long time it was assumed they gained +11 (as there was a more limited range of items to experiment with). It wasn't until someone got hold of the formula that people realized rares gained +13 and found out what the pluses were for epic and legendary items. The maximum tier that can be obtained for an item in Runes of Magic is 20. This limit is hard-wired in the game."

Level Bonus by Item Quality
Quality Level Bonus
Common base
Normal +3
Good +7
Rare +13
Epic unknown (one of +16, 17, or 18)
Legendary unknown

For example, normally placing 3 level 18 Common items in the Arcane Transmutor would produce a Mana Stone Tier 1 Mana Stone Tier 1, but if instead you used 3 level 18 Normal items it would produce a Mana Stone Tier 2 Mana Stone Tier 2.

Thank You! The Runes of Magic Wiki would like to thank Caladin of Official Runes of Magic Forums for Level and Quality vs. Tier.

Q: How do I increase the tier of my item?

A: You use the Arcane Transmutor with the item you want to improve and 3 Mana Stones Mana Stones of the same tier you want to raise it to.

The video above shows you how to raise the tier of an item, but it also shows you how to make the Mana Stones Mana Stones you need to do this.

Refining[ | ]

Many players call this "Plussing". You can use a Refining Gem to add a + (plus) to your equipment. They can be bought from Refining Merchants, Item Shop (Diamonds Diamonds or Rubies Rubies), Phirius Merchants, or rewarded during some festivals. Each Refining attempt may succeed (add a +1 to the item), fail (reduce the rank by -1), or do nothing. There are many factors that go into this calculation, but there is also a random element. Even if you have everything just right, or the best you can, it still has a chance to fail. Only Perfect Refining Gems have no chance of failure, and they can only be bought using Rubies Rubies.

Each gem will only work on one type of item (Armor, Weapon, Accessory, or Back Slot), and only for 6 ranks (+0 to +6, +7 to +12, etc). Of course, each rank of Plus is more likely to fail, and higher-quality gems are more likely to succeed. Perfect Refining Gems are the only gem that cannot fail, but all Item Shop quality Refining Gems are guaranteed to at least add +1 to the minimum plus for that tier, and drop no lower than that.

Durability[ | ]

All equipped armor and weapons take damage during use. Weapons loose durability when you do normal attacks. Armor looses durability when you get hit. Death damages all equipped armor and weapons more severely ( about -10 durability when you die). When an item's Durability drops to 0 all stat bonuses on the item are suppressed. On the other hand, as long as an item has more than 100 durability, it gains a 20% boost to ALL of its stats.

Most items have a Maximum Durability of 100. Those over 100 are called "Over-Dura" (OD) or "High-Dura" (HD), while those below are "Sub-Dura" (SD) or "low-dura" (LD). Because the first hit you take will always decrease your armor's durability by 1 if it was at its maximum durability before, players usually only call items with at least 102 maximum durability "High-Dura". (An item with only 101 maximum durability would loose the 20% bonus on the very first hit you take, which would not be very practical. For this reason, these items are also called "Fake-HD").

Durability can be restored by talking to a Merchant and clicking on the Repair One or Repair All buttons on the bottom-right of his Sales UI, or by using a Repair Hammer. The durability of an item can be temporarily raised over its maximum with Golden Repair Hammer Golden Repair Hammer to gain the 20% bonus to all stats despite it being "low-dura". The maximum durability of an item can also be permanently increased with Titanium Hammer Titanium Hammer.
